Vancouver, August 19, 2024. Canary Cure announced the start of in vivo studies for CCT-217, its investigational dual-siRNA candidate for obesity and metabolic dysfunction.

Investigating adipose energy expenditure

The program examines combined gene silencing involving peripheral CB1 receptors and pathways associated with thermogenesis. Its research objective is to promote the transition of energy-storing white fat toward metabolically active beige fat.

The company’s study announcement described evaluation in mice. The work was intended to investigate tissue-specific gene silencing and metabolic effects, including fat reduction and preservation of lean body mass.

A preclinical development milestone

These studies form part of Canary’s effort to evaluate an RNA-based approach to metabolic disease. Preclinical findings inform further development; they do not establish safety or efficacy in people.
